Checking in Vancouver |
DF Mexico City |
Our flight to Mexico City left
at 11:30 PM. We were stuffed from our
sumptuous Chinese dinner and ready to sleep.
Our teeth were brushed, our prayers were said, and we were ready for
bed. I reminisced that the last time the
kids were on a red-eye two years ago, I enjoyed half a valium and a glass of
wine as the plane took off, then passed out quickly with SoJo and Caleb. I woke up in the early morning just before our
descent in Sao Paulo to find Carmela glassy-eyed from watching the screen in front of her
all night. I freaked out, and she was an
exhausted mess the next day. I worried
the same would happen on this flight. I
reminded her of this story several times before we left, and fortunately we
were all able to sleep (but no valium this time) – at least a bit on our flight south.
Next Stop - Argentina! |
Our 14 hour Buenos Aires
stay was hilarious. I booked two double rooms
at Hotel O’Rei - making 4 beds for our family of 5 – perfect. The kids were crazy excited about having individual
beds to sleep in. When we arrived at the
hotel, the lobby was on the third floor of a compact walk-up.
As Adam manhandled the
250lbs of luggage up 2 flights of stairs, I checked in with the owner. He had our reservation, BUT he only rooms with one double bed left. It was late, we were tired,
and I happily took agreed. We left our
luggage in the lobby to avoid hauling it up another flight of stairs, and proceeded
to our meager quarters.
The paint was peeling; the
shared bathroom had multiple notices reminding guests that there was only cold
water and not to put toilet paper in the toilet, and the smell was a bit... stagnant. But the sheets covering the scratchy blankets
were clean, and as I crawled into the petite bed with SoJo on one side and
Caleb on the other, I joyfully savored the moment. We said our bedtime prayers and cozily snuggled in for the night. Sleep came quickly for all of us and before
we knew it, Adam was banging on the door with fresh medialunas for breakfast.
Gotta love the ups and downs of travel. Good job of rolling with it! 👍🏽
